Villains' Day

In honor of the IRS (those evil villains in the American Government - at least to those of us who live in the USA) and TAX DAY, I declare today, 15 of April, NATIONAL VILLAIN'S DAY (or international if others think its a good idea)! Let here it for the villains! Booooooooooo! It's really not a great story without a really great villain!

The Disney Villains: They are such fun to hate. They make the backbone of the great Disney Classics. The stories just won't be the same without evil uncle Scar, Shere Khan, Ursula and the rest. Some have a redeemable quality such as the love of one's pets but most are just plain evil fun! My personal favorite has to be Maleficent, the Mistress of All Evil! Gotta love that title. I mean really how much more can you ask of the title! Of All Evil! That covers so much!

Voldemort: Harry Potter would have been another nobody had it not been for the great evil Wizard Voldemort. He made Harry Potter what it was so if there was no Voldemort than there couldn't have been a Harry Potter. And on the evil scale... He's gotta be right near the top on the great evil chart!

Vadim Maur: Talk about a completely nasty evil guy! Anything goes when it comes to his pursuit of everlasting life and ultimate magical power. He breeds people like animal to get the most gifted offspring so that he can breed them until he has the ultimate magical spawn so that he can take over their bodies and conquer the world! But really don't you have to admire his perseverance and dedication towards his goal.

Where Did Aymless Go?

It's been awhile since I posted so here's the update:

1. I really haven't gone anywhere. Mostly just hiding from the world in general.

2. Am depressed because can't find work and the money is running out so that puts me at

3. Am very anxious because the money is running out an there is no work to be had as of yet!

4. Got lots of books read (will post reviews eventually) but a lot of them where re-reads (had to refresh my memory on all of Sherrilyn Kenyon books so that I could read Acheron). Works well for the getting away but not really away bit.

5. Now entering my most disliked season! Bird-Poop. Yup at my place we have Wet and Bird-Poop seasons (with a mix of the two between the seasons). I really, really hate Bird-Poop season. My nice car gets covered in that icky stuff every day so there doesn't seem to be a point in washing it off. But then you end up driving Poop-car (which I find icky) until you get around to washing it off. Why can't they find someone else's car to poop all over!

6. Procrastinating on buying all those seeds for the garden. Will get around to it sometime.

7. Procrastinating on doing TurboTax (all you Americans know what that is). Have to do it this week sometime... but really it's only Tuesday so that at least another two days I can put it off. *g*

So that's what I've been doing. How about all of you?

Super Bowl XLIII

Apparently it's that time of year again... the one most football fans wait for all year...

THE SUPERBOWL

How could it have snuck up on me yet again?! I guess since I don't really follow sports or have turned on the TV since the Olympics, this was bound to happen. Thanks to friends who are slightly more aware, I'm off to the Superbowl party on Sunday... here how the invitation came:

Guy Friend: You doing anything this weekend?

me: Nope.

GF: Come over on Sunday and watch the Superbowl with us. We're have a couple people over.

me: Okay. Who's playing?

GF: Uh... dunno, but the commercials will be good.

me: Okay. What time?

GF: Come about a hour before the game.

me: and that would be....?

GF: I dunno? One-ish.

That's us. Complete and total football junkies... LOL... Anyway, good times will be had, much food will be eaten and we might even watch some of the game.

Ack! and Ick!

This flu sucks and on top of that I got strep throat too! Haven't been this sick since I was 12! Had to miss lots of work so no money there (in fact it cost me since I had to cancel hotel reservations and had to pay for it anyway... non-refundable... grrr...). Didn't read much as I kept falling a sleep or making tea or running off to the bathroom. Hope to have another review out sometime this week.

Here's to hoping this year is better than the last.

Okay it that time of year where we all delude ourselves and make promises to do things that we'll probably quit doing or forget about by the end of the month:

1. Exercise more... like that's going to happen. So maybe I'll put the books on the other side of the bed... that way it will take more steps to reach it... hmmm....
2. Go on that diet to lose the "holiday" weight we gained... too bad it was already there before the holidays started... *sigh*
3. Stay in touch... I am better at doing that virtually... mostly... too bad mom insists on hearing me on the phone and e-mails don't count... grrr... wonder why she never calls my brother or sister...
4. Send birthday cards on time... belated ones count as on time... right? after all they do say "Belated" on the card
5. Read more off the TBR than added per month... but I NEED those books... there must be some I don't have yet... and the new ones... I NEED them

That's all I can handle... and if I get to mid-February or early-March... or get past 1, it'll be a good year!

Head to Desk!

This was supposed to be an easy week! ACK! *Head to Desk*

Everyone supposed to be on vacation between Christmas and New Years. But apparently no one told that to this company. They want EVERYTHING this week!!!!

So while all the rest of my team is on vacation (probably drinking Mai Tais on a beach somewhere, or sleeping late in their own beds *grumble*) I am here buried under tons of paper and completing test work that NO ONE told me had to get done! They told me all I had to do was hold down the fort. And NOT that everyone and their mother were going to attack me with requests! *Head to DESK*

I just want to left alone for a while so that I can complete what I can. Hopefully they will be satisfied with that. But as I am only one person trying to do four people's work, they'll have deal with it until Monday when all return (and hopefully my sanity too). But in the meantime, hiding seems to be a great idea (rather than continuing to do *head to desk* as it is giving me a headache)!

Update

One holiday down and one more to go. Again over did it. Thanksgiving has no calories, right? And I really need to buy and get my holiday cards out. Must plan time for this... must get stamps as well.

Whee! Finally back to work. The wallet was looking very, very frighteningly skinny. I start Monday on a new contract in Santa Clara, CA, hopefully it will last as long as they say it will (which is mid January). So for the next month or so I will be a hotel bum during the week and get to sleep in my own bed only on weekends *pooh*. Hopefully that big furry rug I call a cat will actually still remember that I am her human.

And this traveling bit might actually make me read from the TBR and not the old favorites since I am limited on what books I can take with me (since I have not yet broken down and bought a Kindle). I have already located two used bookstores in the area and that could be dangerous. Must read the TBR since room on the TBR bookshelf is running out of space. Resist, resist.

Hopefully later this week I will have time to put together posts for a movie review (Quantum of Solace - the new Bond film) and a book review (Mercury's War by Lora Leigh).

Update

Okay so I have been silent for about a week. Am totally depressed about the whole not working thing (especially when having to pay bills or balance check book)

The job hunting continues. Have I said how much I hate it recently? Not working totally sucks because bills add up and there is no influx of cash. Why can't I win the lottery or something so that money wasn't such a problem? Mind you I don't mind working, but not having to worry about money would be nice. Anyone want to donate to the poor Aymless fund?

On a bright note (well maybe not so bright), I cashed in my change and added it to my Amazon account so I can at least get books without added expense, but this also means that the fatcat bank is now empty *pout*

Got my BDB handbook. Haven't browsed it yet but it will at least take time away from the moping about not working.

And there is always the very large TBR pile which doesn't seem to shrink. Maybe if I actually picked things off it to read it would, but lately I've been interested in reading some old favorites. Lately been going through Marjorie M. Liu's Dirk and Steel series getting ready to read the latest (Wild Road)

And then there are the much wanted books... Nalini Singh's Branded by Fire, Anne Bishop's Shadow Queen and CL Wilson's Queen of Song and Souls (and the excerpt for this one not even available to drool over), to name a few.

Where is my time machine? I really need to get into making one, anyone want to help? I'll even let you use it *g*

A Beginning

Well here goes another attempt to writing a blog. It's like the diary you start every year but then forget it is there and the next thing you know it is June and you've made one entry so you toss it in a drawer/bookshelf with all the others.

So what's up with me. Well currently unemployed and looking for a new opportunity. I think the cosmos is telling me to start a new career. What that new career should be is still a mystery to me. The migraines are still there. Some days are better than others but usually it all depends on the stress and amount of sleep. The more I stress about not working and not being able to find work, the less sleep I get which than all equals more migraines. Not having a routine is also increasing the frequency of the migraines, but it is hard to set up a routine when there is no place you have to be on any given day.

I have been spending my inadvertent vacation catching up on my reading. It started with the To Be Read (TBR) pile that all avid readers probably have next to their beds. Then came the reading of blogs, since I was already on-line looking for work I started searching for authors I enjoy and found Nalini Singh's blog. Thanks to all those other blogger and commentators, my TBR pile has grown so much that I had to buy a new book case just for them. I have also meet some very nice people. People who are as crazy about books as I am. Glad to know I'm not the only one crazy about romance novels.
