The BIG Drive

The car is all packed with all the necessities (books, some clothes, books, lotion collection, books, some munchies, books, computer, and books). My pretty little Prius has never been more than 380 miles (612 km for you metric folks) from where it was bought. And after nearly 5 years it only has 37,000 miles on it. So it a big adventure for the car as well!

Tomorrow I will be leaving my beloved Bay Area to drive almost all the way across the country to my new home in Indiana (2300 miles/ 3700 km).

And as my friend put it, I am going to be living in the middle of nowhere. *sigh*

Having never lived away from the Pacific Ocean I have no way of judging how close to the truth that is. I will be moving to a college town so it can't be that bad (crosses fingers) and I am within driving distance of Chicago, St. Louis and Cincinati which all have large airports with flights to "everywhere" (again previously mentioned friend).

So I'm off to start my new adventure starting tomorrow and who know what will happened. Hopefully only good things! *crosses fingers*

Ahhh, no doubt a silly question Aymless, but did you remember to pack a map *grin*

I hope you have a wonderful (and safe) drive - it is a long way but there will be so much to see :) I don't know if you're on a time schedule, but if you have the time don't forget to stop if you see something interesting. That's half the fun :)

And I did try and look up where you were moving too - aren't you close to a VERY BIG lake?

(((Aymless))) I'll be thinking of you on your travels!

I didn’t know that you live in the bay area! Well did at least :o) what city did you live in? I always talk about wanting to move away but honestly I’m a little scared to. Good luck with your new adventure and drive safely.

I was born in Illinois, so, I have a fondness for that part of the country ;)

Good Luck!!! Drive safe.

I have a fondness for the Midwest, having been born and raised there. I'm not going to lie to you - it's going to be VERY different from the Bay Area, but Indiana is not without it's charms. And yeah - you'll be near Chicago - which is a great city, and lots o' fun.

Have a safe trip and enjoy the sights. My Man drove from Michigan to So. Cal. when he moved west (when I followed him, I flew) and while the drive was exhausting, he loved taking in the scenery.

(((Aymless)))) Hugs to you for being very brave. In my life, I have only moved maybe 50 miles away from my birth place. So, I am very jealous of you for getting this opportunity!! It is wonderful!
I will be praying for your safety along the way... and yes, stop and see the sights if you can!!! That really is half your adventure!!! Never know what you might find somewhere along the way!!!
My thoughts and prayers are with you while you travel my friend!

Thanks everyone. *big sigh* Its a big step but I'm doing it for the book money *g*

I have the route all planned and have a place to stay every night on the road and won't be driving more the 7 hours in a day.

Orannia: Yup Indiana is on the southern tip of Lake Michigan. I will also be living near a very large man-made lake (they keep telling me its the biggest in the world - not quite sure about). But alas its a lake and not the Ocean

LeeAnn: I used to live in Benicia. I miss it already. *sigh* You live in the Bay Area!! And I didn't know. *sigh*

Barbara/Wendy: Everyone tells me I will like it but it'll be a huge culture shock. I'm prepared for that. And I did find a local, organic grocery store already so that makes me happy. That little tree-hugger in me is grinning like mad.

KB: Hugs back. I'll dream of Mho. *g*

Cecile: Yes BIG move and LOTS of change. *stressed* I'm just trying to think of as a really long vacation. Don't know how well that will work. *g*

Big hugs, Aymless!!!! Have a safe and fun trip. I hope you have a few audiobooks to listen to on the drive!

I thought Lisa was going to say, "You know what's cool? You'll be right there when you get there."

Kinda like that famous quote, "Wherever you go, there you are." That is famous, right? Not just to me? Oh, never mind.

*blonde*

Happy Trails! =)

You're probably on the road right now but be well! Everything will work out, you'll see. It won't be the Pacific Ocean but it'll be good. Life is what we make it and you've got the guts and the inner strength to move halfway across America. You'll be fine.

{{big hug}}
