Reading is NOT a cure for Insomnia

Sleep who needs sleep. Good thing I am unemployed at the present since I would not be able to function at work. That whole not sleeping thing really seems to interfere with normal life (whatever that is). At least all the extra time is giving me more time to read... not the TBR pile seems to be decreasing, thanks to a number of reviews (not naming names...*mumbles* kristie(j)/katie(babs) ) ... and wondering if books count as carbs or fiber.

So instead of sleep, I read Phury's book,
Lover Enshrined by J.R. Ward. As much as I was looking forward to this book, I have to say it was a disappointment. The heroine is mediocre and mostly "fluffy", had no real substance . The hero is tortured, annoying and most of the time you want to slap him to set him straight. The romance part of the story just wasn't present, no real chemistry. Almost thought the story would have been better off without the hero and heroine.

The really great parts of the book involve side characters of the book and evolution of the general storyline of the series. It does make one wonder interested in what happens next, keeps the reader's attention (as long as the hero/heroine was not involved... kept trying to skim those parts and had to go back when I missed something about the storyline *sigh*) and the general story itself has great twists and turns.

I wouldn't recommend this as a romance, but as general vampire novel. Unfortunate part of that is without the beginning of the storyline, told in the earlier more romantic novels, the storyline and characterizations need additional explanations that are not given in this novel. I've had more enjoyment re-reading some of my older novels.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Me responsible for your book addiction? *looks innocently*

Just like you and I think most who will read LEN, many will be disappointed by the lame romance between Phury and Cormia. I feel it is the weakest one out of all the books. But as for the secondary stories and the major WTF with Lash and Qhuinn and of course with Revh, Ward still has me hooked at least till Revh's book.

And there are going to be even more reviews coming to help add to your TBR pile. MUWAHAAHAAA

Thanks for the torture katie(babs)! Can't wait, will probably die if my TBR pile disappears, but wallet is still moaning so please wait a little before tempting me again.

I remember a number of years ago I stayed up Real Late reading a Very Good book - don't remember the title anymore. I was supposed to have the next day off so I figured I'd be safe. I ended up staying up 'til 3:00 am reading. The next day the phone rang at 7:30. It was work wanting to know if I could come in since someone called in sick. And it was an asap call in. I was SO tired when I was getting ready, I mixed the hairspray up with the deoderant. I didn't notice when I sprayed my hair, but when I used the 'deorderant' I wondered for a minute or two why is was harder to lift my arm up. That was the last time I stayed up that late reading.

Great review Aymless! From what I've seen, this is pretty true with this particular one. According to you and Katiebabs JR Ward's books are bookcrack.

Katiebabs, can you invent a word for that? ;) Since we're all getting addicted anyhoo. >_<

Kristiej...that is hilarious. I think my experience goes along the lines of-not sleeping at all and going straight off to work, then dozing the entire time. Nearly falling asleep. Or I'd bring my book in and sneak it during breaks. Hehehehehe.

Why not call it KB crack because I would like to say that I came up with the nickname. :P

I agree with your assessment, but went into it with low expectations in the romance department, so I think I liked it better. I think of this series more like a family saga now, and I thought the subplots were captivating enough to make LEn a worthy read.

Do you think you'll read Rehv's book? If yes, will you buy LAv in hardcover?
